HISTORY OF THE CLUB
Hook Odiham and Hartley Wintney Lions Club, or Whitewater Lions Club as it was then known, was founded in March 1987. Fairly soon it changed its name to Hook and Odiham Lions Club to reflect the 2 main villages it serves. In 2025 it changed its name again to include Hartley Wintney.
The club also serves Rotherwick, Long Sutton, Winchfield and South and North Warnborough. During the years we have had many high and lows and membership has fluctuated but despite problems we have continued to give service to our local community and raise considerable sums of money.
There are no longer any Charter members left but Lions Bryan and Roger have more than 30 years' service each having transferred from other clubs. In 1998 the club hit its lowest point and nearly folded. Lion Bryan was appointed as Guiding Lion and Lions Terry and Graham joined in 1999.
Since then we have grown gradually but also lost members including our last two Charter members who passed to higher service during 2015-16. We have stabilised at about 15 members but hope to increase this. In January 2018 we became registered as a CIO, (Charitable Incorporated Institution) . Our registration number is 1176812. This means we are governed by the Charity Commission and have to adhere to their conditions.
